Writing Fundamentals: Free YouTube Live Series on Storytelling (10-Week Guide for Writers)

There’s something so immensely magical about writing that even a seasoned writer like me would have a hard time describing it. Being a writer itself isn’t different from being a magician, we do turn a blank page into an immersive world of imagination. But like any good magician will tell you, in order to make the magic believable, you need to practice every single trick until you master it. But how can you master something without learning baout it first?

I often receive messages and emails asking me the most basic questions when it comes to writing: How to start writing? How to write a book? How to structure the story? How to finish the book? How do create believable characters? And how to write better?

These were questions that had plagued me too when I was beginning my writing journey. I love teaching and talkign about books and stories, but over the last couple of years, my profession of editing books has taken most of my time. And that’s why I’m launching a brand-new weekly YouTube Live series: Writing Fundamentals, where I can teach you about how stories work.

Starting Saturday, 11th October 2025, I’ll be going live on my YouTube channel every Saturday evening for 10 weeks to break down the building blocks of storytelling. Think of it as a free masterclass series, where we’ll unpack the craft piece by piece.

Each session will be a mix of lecture, discussion, practical examples (sometimes from my own works-in-progress and books), and a Q&A where you can ask me your writing questions. Whether you’re a beginner still figuring out your first scene or an experienced writer polishing your manuscript, these sessions will give you tools, insights, and confidence.

Here’s a look at the line-up for Season 1: Writing Fundamentals:

Episode List

  • 11 Oct – The Anatomy of a Story: Core story elements—character, conflict, change.
  • 18 Oct – Building Believable Characters: Goals, flaws, archetypes vs stereotypes.
  • 25 Oct – Conflict: Internal vs external conflict, raising stakes.
  • 1 Nov – Worldbuilding: Setting as character, immersive description.
  • 8 Nov – Point of View & Voice: POV choices, narrative distance, finding voice.
