How I Work

My Editing Process

Before Editing Begins

This stage helps us get clear on where the manuscript is, what it needs, and how we should approach the work—before any editing begins.

Manuscript Sample / Overview

You’ll share either a sample or an overview of the manuscript so I can assess its stage, complexity, and editorial needs.

Proposed Scope & Costing

Based on that assessment, I’ll recommend the most suitable type of editing and share a clear scope of work along with pricing.

Payment & Scheduling

Once we agree on the scope, timelines and payment terms are finalised, the confidentiality agreement (NDA) and editing contract are signed, and your project is scheduled into my calendar.

The Editing Rounds

Editing is performed in stages. Depending on the type of editing, there are 2-3 rounds of editing and the process always moves from big-picture clarity to finer refinements.

Round 1 — Developmental / Structural Edit

This round focuses on the manuscript as a whole: structure, pacing, character arcs, flow, logic gaps, and overall cohesion.

Round 2 — Substantive / Line Edit

Once revisions are applied, the focus shifts to language, flow, clarity, and consistency, while preserving your voice as in-line edits.

Round 3 — Final Review (If Needed)

Some projects benefit from a final, lighter pass to ensure everything holds together cleanly before the manuscript moves forward. This round is only available in Comprehensive Editing.
